LEARNING AT BURGMANN

The Early Childhood years at Burgmann Anglican School provide a platform for young children to experience the joy of learning. With a strong focus on progress, play and literacy, the program is informed by research into ways children of this age learn and what they are ready to learn. Our Pre-Kindergarten programs enjoy the excellence rating of the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). From Kindergarten, students learn according to the Australian Curriculum with the addition of school-based programs. They have specialist teachers in Christian Living, Music, Languages and Physical Education.

The learning and teaching in Junior School and beyond builds on the groundwork of the Early Childhood years, continuing to follow the Australian Curriculum, and extending foundations in literacy, numeracy, scientific enquiry and integrated studies.

The Middle School program recognises the unique needs and demands of early adolescence and the transition in learning from concrete to abstract ideas. The broader range of subject offerings and opportunities to sample subjects according to strengths and passions, is intended to foster engagement in learning and to build habits needed for more independent studies in the Senior School.

The broad curriculum of the Senior School provides elective opportunities in addition to mainstream subjects which allow students to pursue their interests and gifts in the final stages of compulsory schooling. In Years 11 and 12, they begin the Senior Secondary component of the Australian Curriculum, progressing along multiple pathways according to their post-school goals. This may include working towards the attainment of the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Statement or alternatively pursuing an Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA) or other vocational qualifications. The learning is geared towards preparing students for work, future study and meaningful citizenship as they transition from schooling into responsible adulthood.
